Our History

How it all began

MSC's first appearance on the Dutch market goes back to 1975 offering sailings to and from the Red Sea. The line was in those days represented by Pegasus, an independent Agency company.

It was evident that MSC and her customers would benefit from a more controlled and dedicated Agency and soon thereafter, in 1985, Sealiner Agencies Holland B.V. was established.

The neutral name Sealiner was chosen to enable this company to also represent other Shipping Lines on trades not (yet) covered by MSC.

The expansion of containerization enabled MSC to grow into new markets and gradually the line became a leading player in the containerized world by adding more and more continents to its services.

This development resulted in renaming our company into Mediterranean Shipping Company (Nederland) B.V. in the year 2002 at which time no 'other' lines were represented any longer as MSC covered all continents.

In this same year MSC became the 2nd largest container carrier in the world as result of its on-going and progressive development and implementation of more and larger container vessels to meet with our customers' demands.

As a result of their dedication and motivation we still employ a number of colleagues, who started to work for MSC as early as 1985. Meanwhile our office, in line with MSC's development, grew from this first group of people into an organization counting over 230 employees.

Over the last couple of years MSC has added ever getting larger newbuild vessels to their fleet nearly every month, a process that will continue in the future. Only this way MSC stays prepared for the years ahead.

This policy implies that our history also contains a great future!
